The Javelina picnic area in Saguaro NP East is in the foothills of the Rincon Mountains.
This view is to the East at the Javelina picnic area in Saguaro National Park Rincon Mountain District.
This is the start of the Tanque Verde Ridge Trail. It is great for a short one or two mile hike with great ridge views of Tucson and the surrounding basin. It is a strenuous trail. It starts climbing steeply right out of the parking lot. |
The tables are covered and are well spaced out with a trash can and a grill.
One of my favorite trails starts in parking lot of the Javelina picnic area. The Tanque Verde Ridge Trail climbs steeply up the ridge and goes to the heart of the Rincon Mountains.
A trailhead plaque shows the mileage to some backcountry camping and landmarks in Saguaro National Park East. Juniper Basin at 6.9 miles is the closest backcountry campground on this trail. Manning Camp is another backcountry campground at 16 miles from the Javelina picnic area. Check at the visitor center for camping permits.
